Complete Stinkers – Kwasimodo
Complete Stinkers - Kwasimodo...
Hunchback on the Commodore 64 blew my mind back in 1983, and honestly, it still does today. It's one of those rare games that not only survives the test of time but arguably plays better than the original arcade version. With its simple yet addictive gameplay, tight controls, memorable obstacles, and charming presentation, it remains one of the finest platform games of the 8-bit era.
So when I discovered Kwasimodo on the Amiga, a game clearly inspired by the same formula, I was intrigued. Here was an opportunity to see what developers could do with a machine that was significantly more powerful than the Commodore 64. Surely a four-year-old concept could be recreated and improved upon with better graphics, smoother animation, and enhanced sound.
Unfortunately, that is not what happened. Not even close. Instead of building on the strengths of a beloved classic, Kwasimodo somehow manages to get almost everything wrong, resulting in one of the most bafflingly poor platform games ever released for the Amiga.
